I immediately saved the TikTok and added the song to my “current obsessions” playlist, and my love for the band has only increased since then. A clip from their performance of “Chaise Longue” on the BBC show Later wormed its way onto my for-you page, and I was transfixed. I discovered Wet Leg while mindlessly scrolling on TikTok a few months ago. Their sound is so unique and so teasingly enticing that it’s almost impossible not to be drawn in. Their debut single, “Chaise Longue”, was released in June 2021 and created enough buzz to earn them a record deal and secure them performing spots at multiple festivals in the UK. The insanely British, wildly irreverent rock duo that makes up Wet Leg have had such an auspicious start to their musical careers, it’s almost unfair. I suppose what I’d take away from this one is: go see some bands and artists you might not normally consider, you can walk away with some really memorable experiences. For those unfamiliar with the band, I’d recommend listening to “Queen of Hearts”, “Turn the Season”, “A Little Death”, or my personal fave “The Other Shoe”. Though hearing my favorite songs from the record performed was special, with Fucked Up taking the raucous energy of their studio recordings to a whole new level. The entire set was a whirlwind, the band taking very few breaks in between songs to the point where it’s hard to even pick out a few highlights. Most of the crowd was older and more subdued, but funnily enough there were a few very small children dancing up at the front for most of the show. Their music channels a clear defiant and anti-authoritarian spirit that clearly resonates with people, as shown by the group at the front who never stopped frenetically dancing throughout the entire show. You can tell they’ve been doing it for over two decades, the band members are as in-sync with each other as it’s possible to be. I’d heard before the show that Fucked Up were a must-see live band, and after experiencing them myself I can only agree emphatically. It was great, he had easily the most magnetic stage presence I’ve ever witnessed. He even did one song with the cord of the mic wrapped around his head (as seen above). Damian also poured several bottles of water over his head throughout the show, and then stuck the empty bottles to his forehead as he continued to sing. His on-stage presence was easily the highlight of the show, featuring him blowing out the mic around six times, forcing one of the venue’s employees to come on stage and fix it as the band continued to power through the songs (must happen a lot). Lead singer Damian Abraham, perhaps even more impressively, managed to scream every lyric furiously for the entire show, less than a day after doing the same in Portland.

Fucked Up play at full throttle, with incredibly fast and technical guitar work and drumming. Considering the nature of the band’s music, this is seriously impressive. David Comes To Life is a beast of an album, clocking in at well over an hour, and the band played the entire thing front to back. And so, after a day of confronting my lack of academic knowledge and failing midterms, I figured seeing the show would alleviate some of my frustrations.Īnd I was right, Fucked Up were awesome. I’m not the most familiar with punk music as a genre, but I do love the pure catharsis bands like Fucked Up, Against Me!, and Jeff Rosenstock bring with their music. Last month I caught the excellent punk band Fucked Up on their 10 year anniversary tour for their most celebrated album, David Comes To Life. Artemis 1, formerly Exploration Mission-1, is the first in a series of increasingly complex missions that will enable human exploration of the Moon and Mars. The program takes its name from the twin sister of Apollo and the goddess of the Moon in Greek mythology. The Artemis program will send the first woman and the next man to the Moon and develop a sustainable human presence on the Moon and set the stage for further human exploration of Mars. Now NASA is gearing up to set up a permanent lunar presence on the Moon.
